The unique role of deacons in our faith life
"Go forth, the Mass is ended!" Deacons get the last word at Mass, and they have a unique role in the faith life of the Catholic Church. You might hear them proclaiming the gospel or preaching the homily. Deacons assist with Communion and can perform baptisms and witness marriages.
Deacon Bill Ruane and Deacon Peter Cistaro join Bishop Kevin Sweeney and Jai Agnish for episode 68 of Beyond The Beacon. Deacon Bill recently took over the role of director of the Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of Paterson from Deacon Peter. They share insights into the life of a deacon and how they responded to their special call.
